What is "Paleo"?
So, you have stumbled upon our little blog and you are probably asking yourself: “What is this Paleo thing?”, “Why are people talking about it?”, “What is so special about it?”, and “Who are these “‘Primal Maidens?”
1) Paleo is a lifestyle; it is the way mankind was intended to eat. The Paleolithic diet consists of lean meats, fresh vegetables, some fresh fruits, nuts, and seeds. Paleo is how food SHOULD be: Fresh, wholesome, lean, and purposeful!
No Grains (Corn, Wheat, Oats). It doesn't matter how "WHOLE" they are, how cute the Honey-nut Cheerio bee is, or how awesome that brown sugar oatmeal tastes; grains are a mess and will destroy your innards. We are NOT joking.
No Legumes (Beans, Peas, Peanuts). The last line of the above sentence applies here.
No White Potatoes. (Some Paleoer’s will eat sweet potatoes/yams on occasion as a “treat”, or as pre/post WoD fuel.)
No Dairy. That’s right, we said it! Get over it! Trust us, your life WILL go on.
No Sugars of any kind, artificial or otherwise. Some Paleoer’s will use honey/agave/pure maple syrup on occasion as a “treat” in a “Paleo” dessert or whatever tickles their fancy. Remember: Paleo desserts are not necessarily “Paleo”, but they are 100 times better for you than that box of Little Debbie Swiss cake rolls you have in your refrigerator…

No corn or corn bi-products. Although we previously mentioned not to eat corn, we cannot stress the importance of avoiding corn and corn bi-products. Please, avoid corn and corn products at ALL costs. We highly encourage you to check out this website as well as the movie: "Food Inc. Movie." We promise you that you will NEVER look at food the same way again. It's time people learn the truth about what goes into their bodies.
2) People are talking about Paleo because it makes complete sense AND it works – for EVERY BODY.
3) Plain and simple, Paleo is special because it works. It works in the sense that it heals our bodies from the inside out, it fuels our bodies, and it makes us feel good about ourselves. Quite simply, when we eat clean, we feel clean. We know we feel a lot better about ourselves after eating a plate of lean protein and fresh vegetables than we would if we had eaten a 12 piece "chicken" nugget with a large fry, large diet coke, and honey-mustard sauce. We cannot begin to explain the new and amazing relationship we have developed with food since starting the Paleo diet. We have broken free from the calorie and fat counting bondage and have arrived at a place of peace.
4) Primal Maidens consists of Yvie (a.k.a. McStevie), Diane (a.k.a. Dirannosaurus), & Lori (a.k.a. Mom<3). We’re three primal women embarking on a journey to heal our bodies from the damage we have done to them in the past; to have an outlet that allows us to strive to make the right choices for our present and future; and more importantly, to show people how simple, delicious, and amazing the Paleo diet truly is.
It is our ultimate goal to be able to reach people and help change their lives, even if it’s just one person. We’re confident that ANYONE who embarks upon the Paleo journey will find lifelong success, regardless of their end goal. (How many fad-diets can truly promise lifelong success?!)
